SAMSUNG electronic formally opened on 1st of the month the new slim product (model
YP-K3) which excluded exterior speaker from interior mp3 player(model YP-K5) launched
in the end of last year in domestic.
The K3 model opened this time was the product that attracted attention in ‘CES
2007’ in Las Vegas in the early of this year.
As it holds the strength of K5 which has the unique concept of inner speaker,
it has characteristics of slim design. It was a hot issue between customers
after it is known that it is very similar to IPOD’s Nano.

◆The model faithful to basic function = recently MP3P business is attacking its
market as it is divided into 2 groups of product.
Those are the convergence product whose boundary is disappearing as it targets
the whole market, and popularization product led by China.
The K3 model which SAMSUNG launched gives up some complicate accessory function
and is faithful to original MP3 function. That is a little away from the main
flow in domestic market. However it has changed a lot the design and size, which
was anticipated to in the original MP3 and the feeling of hand in gripping.
It is very similar to the concept of product from IPOD.
The person of SAMSUNG who designed this product emphasized “ ‘minimalism’,
the philosophy of design, which pursues of simplicity”. It means that it will
challenge others with touch pad and slim design as it is faithful to basic function.
The trade mark of ‘Yepp’ or ‘SAMSUNG logo’ was taken care of thin not to be
exposed in order not to hinder the whole design concept.
◆After using it …”similar to IPOD Nano”= K3 is similar to IPOD Nano in many sides
like size, weight and other things. For example earphone jack or terminal is located
on the bottom, the main body button is minimized and it is configured simply only
with front screen and touch pad operation part.
The size of IPOD Nano is 40 mm * 90 mm * 0.65 mm and it weighs 40 g.
K3 has similar shape and it’s thickness is 6.95 mm, a little thicker and it
weighs 50g, a little heavier.
IPOD Nano used 1.5 inch LCD (blue, white, back light) and click wheel as its
interior lithium battery’s playing time is 24 hours. On the other hand K3 has
upgraded 1.8 inch OLED screen and the same touch pad which K5 used, in stead
of click wheel. It can play 25 hours by its lithium polymer battery (500mmAh).
Its capacity ranges from 1GB ( black model only) to 8GB.
Additionally SAMSUNG is preparing exterior speaker (model YA-DS200) attachable
for the customers who miss K5 sliding speaker.
It will play several roles of exterior battery for additional electric power,
case which protects body and simple playing of sound.
◆Function of T9, design concept of K3 = If we take function and options in consideration,
K3 is surpassed by T9 ( model YP-T9, left of picture).
K3 does not have “Bluetooth” function boasted of as an improvement in two times
of T9 conference. It does not include moving picture playing, flash game playing,
voice recorder and radio recording. It has neither playing speed control function
nor repetition function. It does not support bookmark function and image expansion.
It includes text viewer but it’s not main function.
What I miss most is the playing time. K3 which chose lithium polymer battery
of 500 mAh can play music for 25 hours (MP3 128 kbps, sound quantity 15, on
the general standard) similar to IPOD Nano. However T9 of 740 mAh can play music
for maximum 30 hours.
We can say K3 has won in the respect of design. It tried to make difference
from IPOD and existing MP3P by choosing slim and sensitive touch pad.
It is suspected that it is so similar to IPOD Nano in the whole design and size.
But as slim type rectangle design has been confirmed by the people of the world,
we can estimate it benchmarked ‘the leader’ rather than It experimented dangerous
irregularity.
◆It aims to be Korean I-Tunes with limitless amount system = the actual power
of IPOD comes from digital contents such as I-Tunes and I-Tunes store rather than
completeness of IPOD device.
That is why IPOD is not so popular in Korea differently from America and Japan.
SAMSUNG is running SAMSUNG Multimedia Studio (SMS) which is upgraded” YEP Studio”
from last year. Here you can manage your multi media files and buy MP3 files
easily like I-Tunes.
SAMSUNG will support customers with more irregular condition of “5000 won limitless
download flat sum system” from 1st of the month.
In “the second story of T9” customer conference on 31st of last month, SAMSUNG
person concerned that the new fee system is available to T9 model customer but
that it will support other model including K3 in the future.

The K3 opened on 1st will be on sale from 9th domestically. In Europe like Britain
it is sold online. The price of 2GB is 89.99 pounds ( 165000 won in Korean won)
and 4GB is 119.99 pounds( 220000 in Korean won). The domestic price will be on
